Bringing out the Best in Us:
A $775,000 capital campaign for
Christ Church
Constructed in 1877, Christ Church stands testament to over 100 years of ministry. Our church has stood because our congregation stands for something-a warm welcome to newcomers, an outreached hand to those in need, and an enduring concern for the students, faculty, and staff at Virginia Tech.
The Bringing Out the Best in Us capital campaign -- which we launched May 22 -- will raise much needed funds to help renew our church facilities and provide a secure foundation for the many vital programs at Christ Church. Our campaign goals are to raise:
- $190,000 to pay off a loan taken out in 2005 for essential structural repairs that stabilized the sanctuary.
- $445,000 for critical repairs and maintenance, including work on unstable stone setting mortar, deteriorated flashing, rotted and exposed wood soffits and trim, deteriorated moss- and mold-covered asbestos slate roof times, deteriorated protective coverings of stained-glass windows, damaged stucco, and inadequate gutters and downspouts.
- $90,000 to restore the church organ, which entails cleaning, replacing pipes, installing installing wiring, and replacing the console.
- $50,000 to make the student apartment, Canterbury House and Castleman House more energy efficient. These improvements are expected to pay for themselves in reduced costs over time while allowing us to be better stewards of the environment.
