Sacramental Life
We, of the Episcopal church, are a sacramental people. There are two sacraments in our traditions: Holy Baptism and the Holy Eucharist. We also recognize five other sacramental rites: Confirmation, Holy Matrimony, Ordination, Reconciliation of Penitent, and Anointing or Unction of the Sick. Sacraments are outward signs of an inward spiritual reality. Christian formation begins at baptism and continues through life and even after death, when we move from "strength to strength in the life of perfect service."
Baptism
Baptism is a sacramental rite of initiation into the Body of Christ through water and the Holy Spirit. The Episcopal Church encourages infant baptism, and the sacrament of baptism is offered several times during the year. If you wish to know more about baptism for your child or for yourself, speak to one of the clergy.
Holy Eucharist
Holy Eucharist, known variously as the Lord's Supper, Holy Communion and Mass, is the principal act of Christian worship. The bread and wine of the Eucharist are a foretaste of the heavenly banquet prepared for us, the symbol of Christ's resurrection and presence in our lives. We invite all baptized persons, including baptized infants and children, to feast with us at the Lord's table.
Confirmation
Confirmation is a sacramental rite within the Episcopal church which is bestowed on communicants by the bishop through prayers, renewal of the baptismal vows and the laying on of hands. Speak to the rector if you are interested in learning more about Confirmation.
