Title: Minister of Formation and Parish Life


Scope: To provide Christian education and parish-wide community-building programs and events that foster faith, spiritual growth, community, and our Episcopal identity while working with parish clergy and staff in a collaborative manner.


Requirements: A Christian committed to the Episcopal Church with a heart for building relationships with parishioners, young and old alike, while promoting Christian formation and community for all. The Episcopal Church’s Safe Church, Safe Communities training and a background check are also required.


Terms:

  1. This salaried position is for a lay person to work forty (40) hours per week.

  2. Presence during Sunday mornings for Christian education, during special events such as the Christmas pageant, Holy Week, and during special programming such as during Lent are required.

  3. Attendance to weekly staff meetings is required. Staff meetings are usually held on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. Other times of the year, special planning meetings may be necessary and attendance is required. Attending Vestry meetings at least six times per year and reporting monthly to the Vestry is also required.

  4. Hours of work: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Sundays. Fridays and Saturdays are the usual Sabbath time/days off, unless otherwise prevented. Compensation time may be taken at another time if work is required on Fridays or Saturdays.

 

Reporting: The Minister of Formation and Parish Life reports directly to the Rector and works collaboratively with the Rector and other staff members.

Responsibilities:

  1. Developing and implementing Christian education programming for children and adults, including but not limited to Sunday morning adult forums, children’s and youth’s Sunday school, and Children’s Chapel, paying keen attention on the relationship-building aspects of these efforts, and collaborating with the clergy staff for baptismal and/or confirmation preparation.

  2. Developing and implementing parish life programming that fosters spiritual growth, faith, community building, and fellowship.

  3. Recruiting and scheduling staff for the parish nursery, and when necessary serving as one of the nursery attendants in the case of an emergency.

  4. Working collaboratively with those involved with youth ministry, helping to develop and implement programming.

  5. Administrative responsibilities include managing programs’ budgets; communication via the parish newsletter, “The Compass,” social media, bulletin inserts, etc.; monthly vestry reports; maintaining a time sheet for hours worked; maintaining the Safe Church, Safe Communities records and database for the parish; and coordinating Safe Church, Safe Communities trainings with the diocesan staff.

  6. Collaboration with other New River Convocation churches for youth ministry events, and serving as the Christ Church liaison for youth and formation programming with the diocese.

Benefits:

  1. Vacation: Two weeks, which must not be taken in December or during Holy Week/Easter Day. Other times can be scheduled with a conversation with the Rector.

  2. Personal leave: Up to two weeks is available for personal leave due to illness, etc.

  3. Participation in the Lay Pension Benefit Plan through the Church Pension Group.

  4. Health insurance fully paid for this position, and if needed, family insurance paid by partially by the individual in this position and the remainder by the church.

  5. Office Holidays taken off with pay: Dec. 26, 27, 28, 31, Jan. 1, Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday following Thanksgiving.

  6. FORMA membership (@ approx. $60/yr.)

  7. Continuing Education: $500 per year and one week’s time per year

  8. Mileage Reimbursement for church-related driving at the current IRS rate.

 

Pay: Salary is negotiable commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary is paid on the 15th and last business day of each month, totaling 24 pay periods, by direct deposit. All federal and state income taxes will be withheld.
